I’ve just signed on to teach teen and adult Saturday classes for the winter term at the Menino Arts Center, starting in January (more info soon). I’ll also be teaching weekday afternoons and evenings for Culture for Change in downtown Boston, as well as at the Brookline Arts Center. I can’t express how grateful I am for these opportunities to continue teaching. When I decided to step away from public school, I was a little nervous. I felt like a recording artist without a major label. But in hindsight it’s exactly what I needed creatively. I’ve given myself a year to devote the proper amount of time needed in the studio, as well as teaching part-time on the side. Come next fall, my plans may change, but I’m focusing on what I have set before me and giving it my all. Thank you to all the friends, families, and fellow artists who have showered me with support. I love you all, truly.

The Price of Beauty (Glamour Gore)
1st of a series titled, “Heroines”. Because it’s oil paint on a variety of materials, the light is picked up differently in various spots. A lot of subtle imagery may be unnoticeable in the photograph.

A concept for a new collection
I’ve come up with a concept for a show that combines elements of ’50s sci-fi movie posters, the glamor of female celebrities from the ‘70-’80s, and comic book pin up art from the ’90s. I’m tentatively titling it, “Heroines”. I’m mixing my love of pop culture and infusing it with a fine art sensibility. I hope to have a 10-12 piece collection of mixed media paintings done in my usual “kinetic style” by the beginning of 2015. I want it to be colorful, sexy, and empowering! I’ve already secured a space to host a preview show next summer. Stay tuned for more!
UPDATE (9.16.13) – I’m three paintings in, one nearly completed, two half done and I am learning so much about women beyond standard anatomy. I never expected, nor thought it possible, but my respect for women has grown with each new paint stroke. My process involves really thinking about and understanding my subject and exploring avenues of thought not necessarily common to me. This is turning into a greater creative and personal experience than I imagined!

Paintings 1-3 in progress.

“A Force for Good” makes the local paper!
Y.E.S. and our “Force For Good” made the local Chinatown newspaper. I’m so proud of the teens involved with this major project, they deserve the publicity.
Getting away

My own special getaway in New England.
My studio is a secret sanctuary unlike any other, bestowed to me by my grandparents for my graduation from university. It’s a great space to escape the city and reflect on my busy life. With a view like this you can understand how it’s become my creative nexus and where I prefer to paint.
